Allison Moore is an artist who has worked in a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, collage and photography. She finds her inspiration in the world around her; whether it be the natural world or manufactured objects from her many collections. During her long and varied career in the arts, Allison has studied theatre design and worked as both a designer and scenic artist.

Allison has studied, lived and worked in a number of locations across Canada. She began a fine arts degree at the University of Manitoba in 1984. From there she travelled to Montreal to study theatre design at the National Theatre School and Concordia University. From there, she moved to Toronto to work in the theatre business. Techniques learned in painting large scale theatrical backdrops have greatly influenced her personal work

Upon returning to Winnipeg in 2002, Allison returned once more to the University of Manitoba to complete a degree in Education. She continues her school work in the graduate program, studying art education.

Her work has been exhibited in Ontario, Montreal, Korea and Winnipeg. She has taught art at numerous galleries and schools throughout Ontario and Manitoba and is passionate about sharing her love of creating with others. Allison presently resides in Winnipeg where she enjoys teaching and making art.

Many things come together in the creating of my art. Collecting and patterns are of particular interest to me. I have many collections in my home that serve as inspiration for my art and often find their way onto my canvas. In the past I have used collections of old buttons, old photographs, books, letters and figurines (to name a few) to serve as subject matter for my paintings and collages.

In arranging and painting these collections, I have also imposed and layered patterned motifs overtop of and around my subject matter. I understand patterns as a means to tame what is natural and potentially wild. Natural forms are neither symmetrical nor predictable until order is imposed on them by an outside force; the artist in this case. In the layering of patterns from natural objects with the juxtaposition of man made imagery, I attempt to explore the relationships between nature and the world we continue to create.

I am presently working with paper and collections of words to construct organic objects that continue my exploration of our connections with the world around us.
